Anne Burrell

Anne W. Burrell (born August 25, 1949) is an American TV chef who is a popular personality. She was also an instructor for the Institute of Culinary Education. Burrell hosts the Food Network show Secrets of a Restaurant Chef as well as co-host of Worst Cooks in America. Anne Burrell, with her signature spiky blonde locks and her edgy personality on Food Network's Secrets of a Restaurant Cook series, provides straightforward and simple cooking techniques that are suitable for the home cook. Chef Burrell also has worked in some of New York's top establishments, been studying Italian food, its culture and traditions and has competed on Food Network's Iron Chef America. As a youngster, growing up in the upstate area of New York, Burrell became passionate about food and cooking. The Culinary Institute of America was the next step for her after she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communications in the fall of 2004 from Canisius College Buffalo NY. She says "I was a huge Culinary Institute of America (CIA) student. I enjoyed every moment." I couldn't seem to get enough enjoyment from it. After graduating Chef Burrell was in Italy for one year taking classes at an Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners. Additionally, she worked at La Taverna del Lupo and La Bottega del 30 (a Michelin starred restaurant) in Tuscany. Her time spent in Italy helped her to understand and appreciate Italian tradition and philosophy, and this has left an impression on her culinary perspective. Burrell has been a member of the Garden of Dreams Foundation Advisory Board that aims to make a difference in children's lives who are facing difficulties. She is also a Juvenile Research Foundation Celebrity Ambassador which promotes the awareness of juvenile diabetes. Burrell speaks on her culinary passion and shares her expertise in the culinary world, as she regularly is in the United States for the roles of speakers and mentors. Anne says she was incredibly fortunate in that she could share her true passion with the people around her.
